NYIIX Problems

by on Oct.07, 2011, under Network

At 12:18 PM, Telehouse notified us of a problem at NYIIX:

“Dear NYIIX members,

At approx 10:40 EST we started having an issue on the switch at 111-8th Ave.
The traffic from/to the NYIIX @ 111 8th Ave is being affected and some
packets are being lost.

We are currently on the line with Brocade to resolve the issue.
Please note that, after the series of outages, we escalated the issue to the
Brocade Executive Team and have been working with them to identify the
root cause of the outages. We will report the outcome as soon as it becomes
available.”

Shortly thereafter, we lowered the priority of our routes through NYIIX to work around their problems. A couple of customers reported network problems that turned out to be a result of the trouble at NYIIX.

UPDATE:

“Dear NYIIX members,

This is a follow-up to the previous email.
Sorry for the delay in the update.

We found the cause of the issue. It is a software defect in hashing for trunks.
It has been confirmed that the problem is happening at 25B.

In order to ensure stability, we have decided to upgrade the code on both
the switches at 25B and that at 111 8th.

We will be reloading the switches today as below:

5:30 pm EST 111 8th Ave
6:30 pm EST 25B”

UPDATE FROM NYIIX:

Dear NYIIX Members,

Code upgrade and reboot is completed.
Trunks are back up and passing traffic.

100 William Street Lobby Renovations

by on Oct.06, 2011, under Uncategorized

The Lobby renovations at 100 William Street are now nearly complete.

As part of the renovations, there are now turn-styles in front of each of the elevator lobbies. NYI clients should still be given access simply by giving your name and photo ID to the security guard and signing-in. If you find that you have any issues with this process, please give us a call at 212.269.1999, or ask the security guard to contact us.

If you would prefer to obtain a badge which will allow you through the turn-style directly, please open a ticket at https://my.nyi.net and request one there.

Irene: 2:05 PM

by on Aug.28, 2011, under Uncategorized

This should be our last update regarding the storm. Our NY and NJ facilities made it through the storm without any issues. I’d like to publicly thank all of the NYI staff who went the extra mile to make sure we were prepared for this weekend and who worked long hours and in some cases camped out at the data centers to ensure that we stayed up and running.

We’d also like to thank everyone who went along their well-wishes, and hope all of you out there were able to make it through the storm OK.

Our facilities have continued to run without any interruption to commercial power. While it looks as though we’ve passed through the brunt of this storm unscathed, we’ll continue to remain vigilant and to closely monitor the weather situation, and for any word of a change from the power companies.

Hurricane Irene: 6:23 AM

by on Aug.28, 2011, under Uncategorized

We did see some temporary voltage issues with the incoming commercial power in our 999 Frontier Road facility in New Jersey earlier this morning. Our UPS’s handled the low voltages to ensure that stable power continued to be delivered into the data center itself. The voltage levels have since stabilized.

There has been no status change for our 100 William Street data centers in Manhattan. We are closely monitoring the information from Con Edison in regards to any planned power outage and will continue to post updates here as we have them.
